Many dealers offer insurance to cover damage and theft of their rental instruments. While some homeowners' policies cover theft, they rarely cover damage. Consult your insurance agent regarding musical instruments. Rental instruments can have replacement costs ranging anywhere from $400 to well over $1000. If you do not take the dealer's insurance, you could be responsible for all repairs and/or replacement.

Insurance for damage and theft coverage is reasonable, usually costing $2-3/month on monthly plans and $12-20 on school year plans.

Musical instruments are delicate machines. Keys can get bent, or horns dropped and dented, resulting in expensive repair charges. Taking advantage of the dealer's insurance eliminates worrying about theft or damage. Keep in mind, no matter how careful your child might be, even in the most cautious, considerate company, accidents can happen.
